Client: The Putney School, an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school.

Print Materials: Admission viewbook, course catalog, application package, travel piece/CD mailer.

Designer Notes: The challenge in designing a new viewbook for Putney was that we were big fans of their existing piece (which we didn't design!). Research unveiled that their target audience was outside Vermont and outside the scope of the school's existing materials. Going to Putney represents a departure for most anyone - where else on earth can you milk the cows at the crack of dawn, study calculus, weld an art sculpture and work in a lab studying DNA structures? This is a multi-layered school - so we designed a larger-than-life, multi-layered viewbook. We open with a pastoral setting and launch into an image of a student welding a sculpture. The pages alternate with translucent overlays that introduce the photo below. It is a powerful piece with a powerful message - Putney is a school that welcomes students who are enthusiastic participants in their own education. The travel piece is unique as well - it is a CD mailer which opens up to reveal a poster and reply card in addition to the CD itself. Putney now receives applicants from across the country and around the world!
